Bantwal Catholic Credit Co-Operative Society Ltd
It was Mr. Ligory Lobo’s dream to start co-operative society for the Christian minorities. He shared and consulted this dream with his fellow Christian leaders and friends. To realize this dream, A meet was organized under the presidency of Smt.Lilly Pereira, President of
Catholic Sabha, Bantwal Zone on 29-06-1997 10:30 AM at Bantwal Infant Jesus church (Modankap) premises for all the Christians of Bantwal Taluk. This meet was attended by Bantwal Infant Jesus church (Modankap) vice president Mr. Victor Menezes as the VIP and about 82 other Christian members.
At the meet, it was unanimously decided to start a credit co-operative society headed by Mr. Ligory Lobo Vogga as a chief promoter. Along with him Mr. Lionel D'souza Modankap, Mr. Lucas Periera Modankap, Mr. Lawrence D’ Souza Farla, Mr. Gabriel Coello Loretto, Mr. Charles Rodrigues Karingaana, Mrs. Lilly Periera Belloor, Mr. Daniel Tauro Allipade, Mr. Peter Jerry Rodrigues Agrar, Mr. Alphonse Fernandes Bellur, Mr. Joseph Vegas Omzoor have been unanimously appointed as promoters.
With reference to the application in consultation with the co-operative development officer by promoter committee to establish a co-operative society, a order vide order number DRPADM/112/RGN/97-98 dated 16-7-1997 by respected deputy registrar, Department of Co-Operative society, Mangalore was passed according to which it was directed to deposit a sum of INR 3,00,000.00 from 300 members at S.C.D.C.C Bank B. C. Road within a time frame of 30 days and reported.
As per the orders Mr. Richard Dsouza, Secretary, Chief promoters of Bantwal Taluk agricultural marketing society and others collected INR 4,86,983.00 share capital from 661 members and remitted to S.C.D.C.C Bank B.C Road and requested Deputy registrar ,
Co-Operative society Mangalore to register the society. With their permission the society was registered vide Reg. Number 13754/97-98 dated 01-09-1997.
For next 3 co-operative years , the following 11 members were nominated as a board of directors.

Mr. Joseph Vegas, Meramajal. 8. Mr. Charles L Rodrigues, Karingana. 9. Mr. Lawrence D’Souza, Farla. 10. Mr.Lucas Periera, Modankap. 11. Mr. Gabriel.J. Cohello, Loretto.
Bantwal catholic credit co-operative society held its first administrative committee meeting on 10-09-1997. During the meet Mr Ligory Lobo, Vogga was elected as the president and Mr. Lionel Dsouza was elected as Vice- President.
Further inauguration and a first general body meeting was scheduled for 2-10-1997, Thursday. As per scheduled, Bantwal catholic credit co-operative society was inaugurated by B.P. Achar, Assistant registrar of co- operative society, Mangalore on 2-10-1997 with blessings from Rev. Peter. S. Noronha, parish priest of Bantwal Infant Jesus Christ Church, Modankap ‘The function was presided by Mrs. Josphene D’Souza (Bantwal town panchayat president) with Mr. R. S. Fernandes (Co-Operative Deputy Registrar Office, Mangalore), Mr. Valentine D’Silva (President - M.C.C bank) and Mr. L.J. Fernandes (President — Cathotic Sabha, Mangalore) as chief guests. The Society started functioning from a building located near Polali Gate on Kaikamba Polali Street owned by Mr.Lucas Periera who let it free i.e. without rent for 5 months.
Bantwal catholic credit co-operative society started functioning with 1 savings bank account,1 Current Account, 2 Fixed Deposit Accounts totaling up to a deposit of 27,100.00 INR and a Share Capital of 4,86,983.00 INR.
During the Financial year 1997-1998 i.e. as on 31-03-1998 Bantwal catholic credit co-operative society had 865 shareholders with a share capital of 6,43,210.00 INR , deposit of 10,08,182.50 INR and Member Loan outstanding Amount of 8,81,319.00/ - INR .
